Learning objectives 1.     Will learn what it is like to be proficient reader with fluency and expression 2.     Will learn meaning of new words 3.     Will understand the story and able to retell

Instructional procedure: Activate Prior Knowledge: 1.     Divide into groups of 2 students each 2.     Each group of student will ask each other questions about what they know about Chinese New Year or What they will do in Chinese New Year 3.     Each group will shared the story for the other one that they asked Read Aloud: 4.     Teacher read aloud “Bring in the New Year” by Grace Lin  5.     During reading teacher will ask questions for discussion to connect students personal life with the story for students’ better understanding on the story Vocabulary: 6.     Write down the vocabulary from the story and ask students to try figure out the meaning based on the text.  If students cannot figure out the meaning, encourage them to look up from dictionary.  Then add the new words on word wall for students easy reference on all vocabulary they learned Activities to check comprehension: Teacher demonstrate how to fill out a part of Graphic Organizer – Story Map on the Smartboard Student to try fill out the rest of Story Map by listing the key ideas based on understanding of the story Student write book journal to retell the story based on the information they listed on Story Map
